I saw Phil twice in Pump Boys and Dinettes and absolutely loved every aspect of the show from the set design and costumes to the music which was Country and Western and Rock n Roll.

This show really was a showcase for Phil’s talents as he sings on many of the songs and plays the most instruments in the show.

Mona really was Phil’s flagship song and a catchy one it is to, it certainly had my toes tapping.  Mona is a song about a Woolworths checkout operator who Jackson, Phil’s character, loves and how he wants her.  The guitar solo in the middle of the song was fantastic as well.

Phil seemed to have so much energy during the show and he looked like he was really enjoying himself, laughing and joking with the others.

The instruments Phil played were pretty varied, from the usual things he plays like guitar, bass and keyboards to three things I had never seen him play before like harmonica, accordion and lap steel.

As this show was billed as having loads of Country and Western songs in it I wasn’t sure if I would enjoy it as I don’t like Country and Western but the songs were really catchy and I found myself singing them after I left the theatre.

After Aladdin this is Phil really back on form and I really look forward to seeing him in The Comedy of Errors.
